Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott isn’t worried about his legacy—he’s focused on one thing: winning a Super Bowl. The veteran signal-caller is locked in on the present and determined to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Dallas.
Prescott, now 31 and entering his 10th NFL season, boasts a decorated resume and a hefty contract. But his focus remains on ending Dallas’ Super Bowl drought and delivering the franchise its first title since 1996.
“I want to win a championship. The legacy and things and whatever comes after I finish playing will take care of itself,” Prescott said on Thursday. “I want to win a championship. I’ll be damned if it’s just for my legacy or for this team or for my personal being, for my sanity. The legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.”
Dak Prescott Called Out Over Super Bowl Comments
Prescott’s Super Bowl message was meant to serve as a rallying cry for the franchise. However, it didn’t sit well with some, who called out the Dallas QB.
“Maybe he should’ve taken a discount if he cared about winning. Lower the cap hit so other players could get paid,” one fan said.
Another added: “Dak is world-class at the mic. It’s on the field where he needs to be more consistently better.”
The Cowboys have enjoyed considerable success in the regular season with Prescott under center. But the Prescott and the Cowboys have struggled in the playoffs, posting a 2-5 record. Those two wins came in the Wild Card round.
“Can you name another QB starter given 10 seasons without sniffing a conference championship or Super Bowl and only 2 playoff wins? I’ll wait,” a fan said.
“You’re getting paid $60 million a season,” another added. “Your sanity will be fine Dak.”
Dak Prescott Backs New Cowboys WR George Pickens
The Cowboys were able to add a new weapon for Prescott in the offseason, trading for George Pickens. He came with character concerns from his time in Pittsburgh but Prescott had nothing but praise for Pickens.
“That’s why I don’t think you should ever really listen to what somebody else says about somebody. I think you should judge everyone, not judge but find out for yourself who they are and allow them to reveal their character to you,” Prescott said.
He added: “The guy, he’s been great, he’s been phenomenal. He’s a guy that loves football, loves his teammates and he’s been excited every day that he’s been here. He’s been early. So no concerns on the personal matters of GP and anything about it. Just super excited that he’s on our team. He’s one of us. He’s a brother and it’s just about continuing to grow and make sure we’re putting the best out there. That’s his approach.”
Prescott is coming off hamstring surgery that limited him to just eight games last season. He passed for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions prior to the injury.
Prescott has been an active participant this offseason and is expected to be ready to roll for the start of the year.
