It looks like the Los Angeles Chargers are still looking to salvage their offense as the team brought in Willie Snead for a tryout this week. According to reports, the Chargers, like most NFL teams, started their mandatory camp, but a few are bringing in veterans for a tryout, and one of them for Los Angeles includes Snead. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2014, the former Ball State product began his career on the practice squad before earning a spot with the New Orleans Saints. Snead hasn’t seen much of the field following the 2020 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens.
He has a lot of upside, but it’s only a matter of time before he gets another opportunity. Even though he was getting just the majority of punt return reps with the Chargers, it’s easy to see why the team is giving him a shot, given the versatility they have in their wide receiver corps from the 2024 draft pick, Ladd McConkey. However, this probably won’t be the only team that may give him an opportunity. Snead isn’t going to drastically change an offensive roster, but he’s more of a situational difference maker.
The wide receiver would join the growing roots of former Ravens who have joined the Chargers in the past, including Hayden Hurst and JK Dobbins. Snead will probably start receiving interest as a speedster roster fill for these two aerial attacks.

Potential Gem for Mahomes?
The Kansas City Chiefs should never feel afraid to add an offensive weapon to bolster the unit for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will continue to be the long-term options for the team as long as they can stay out of offseason legal trouble. They have two dynamic receivers, but they must continue adding depth in the background to help Mahomes’ confidence, depending on more receivers. Marquise Brown is returning on a one-year deal, so that puts Mahomes in a good spot to trigger some trickery plays later on in the season.
Meanwhile, these types of play would fit with Snead’s style of what he would be able to get out of this offense. Former Chief Justin Watson had his moments and became a known weapon from last year’s production. Perhaps Snead could do the same as a veteran on a one-year contract and swoop in to make a few crucial plays to stretch the ball down the field. Imagine having four speedsters, including Snead; this is exactly what the Chiefs might need to get ahead of the curve and get a possible vengeance in the Super Bowl.

However, the Baltimore Ravens have also done their part to pull off some play-action passes from quarterback Lamar Jackson. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are two fiery playmakers who have done this, and they could continue strengthening the blueprint with the addition of Snead. The Ravens could bring back their playmaker for one more, and this might be the game plan that will keep the defense on their toes. DeAndre Hopkins isn’t going to get that out of Jackson, and one more special playmaker like Snead could bring out a spark that hasn’t been shown yet.
