New Chapter: Novak Djokovic set to make Greece his permanent residence

Novak Djokovic is reportedly making arrangements for his definitive move to Greece as his new permanent residence once the US Open concludes in September of this year. The 24-time Grand Slam champion met with none other than the country’s Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the aim of relocating permanently.

The former world No. 1 has repeatedly expressed his love for Greece and was recently seen there again, notably meeting with the country’s highest authority. According to Greek media outlet Gazzetta, Nole and his wife Jelena were in the northern suburbs looking for a school to enroll their children for the upcoming academic year.

Djokovic’s primary residence is in Monaco, although he also owns several properties distributed in different parts of the world (Marbella, Miami, New York), including his penthouse in Belgrade, Serbia.

In September 2024, “Nole” had spoken about hoping his children would remain in Serbia and attend school there, though circumstances appear to have changed. “I lived abroad for many years, of course mostly for work. In recent years, I have been here with my family, with my children. I want to be here, for my children to go to school in Serbia, to feel what Serbia means, as it is also their country, even if they were not born here. I constantly talk to them about it,” the Serb explained to Vece sa Ivanom Ivanovicem. “They chose a school where classes do not last 45 minutes, parents actively participate in education, and children are encouraged to be creative.”

Djokovic is practically a national hero in Serbia, which was evident from the grand celebrations he received from his people after winning the gold medal at Paris 2024. However, the country’s recent sociopolitical conflicts have had an impact.

Between 2024 and 2025, the country experienced large protests due to corruption issues in public education. “Nole” expressed his support for the students. “As someone who deeply believes in the power of youth and their desire for a better future, I believe it’s important that their voices are heard,” Djokovic posted on his X account in December 2024. “Serbia has enormous potential, and its educated youth is its greatest strength. What we all need is understanding and respect. With you, Novak.”

According to some media, like Vreme or Neokosmos, and insinuations on social media, Djokovic is reportedly suffering a “media boycott,” suggesting that state-controlled media might be decreasing coverage of Djokovic after he voiced his position on political tensions.
