In his podcast Served with Andy Roddick, the former American tennis player believes that Nole hired the Scot for his tennis intelligence.

“Djokovic can come in, take you off the court, play defense, do all these things, but is he still the best attacker on clay? I don’t know. Jannik Sinner probably took him, Sinner is younger and can probably create more pace at this point, but it doesn’t mean he’s a better player overall. But what has Andy done in the last four years of his career on the court? He’s tried to solve problems,” explained the American.

Roddick said that the struggle the Scot faced in the final years of his glorious career will be a value for Djokovic at this age.

“I think Murray has the highest tennis IQ I’ve ever seen. He’s competed with these kind of superheroes without a dominant shot on the court and without being faster than them. He’s a detail-oriented guy, he’s a master at analyzing matches, he’s one of the most detail-oriented guys ever. The fact that I say Novak at 38 is not as good as he was at 32 should not be up for debate. And Novak chose him because he knows he wants those conversations, he feels he needs something a little different right now,” added the former US Open winner.

The partnership between Nole and Andy – as I explained in a recent editorial – was a more than wise move. Djokovic and Murray, friends since they started their journey in tennis, have fought endless battles on the tennis court, in their careers.
