Dodgers Urged to Counter Rafael Devers Trade by Acquiring Blue Jays’ All-Star

Topping the Los Angeles Dodgers’ ability to acquire top-tier talent is rare. Whether it be a $700 million deal for Shohei Ohtani, trading for All-Star Tyler Glasnow, or simply making the right move at the right time, Los Angeles usually comes out on top.

However, the San Francisco Giants may have given the Dodgers a run for their money this weekend by acquiring three-time All-Star Rafael Devers in a blockbuster trade.

In the wake of San Francisco’s internet-breaking move, speculation is building as to what the Dodgers have in store at this year’s trade deadline.

Newsweek’s Andrew Wright suggests Los Angeles make a call to the Toronto Blue Jays for shortstop Bo Bichette.

“The dynamic of the Dodgers defense may change a little bit if they were to go after Bichette, but that wouldn’t be too much to worry about when trying to acquire one of the best shortstops in the league,” wrote Wright.

Despite the Blue Jays’ standing as a Wild Card contender, Bichette could be a top trade candidate due to his status as an impending free agent, if made available.

This season, the former two-time All-Star is slashing .268/.312/.411 with eight home runs and 41 RBIs. While he may not be a significant power threat, Bichette can slot in at shortstop or second base, providing Los Angeles with another consistent bat in the lineup.

The Blue Jay will not just give Bichette away for free, as he will likely cost multiple top prospects, but as Wright points out, adding another right-handed bat to “counter the excellent left-handed arms like Robbie Ray, Shota Imanaga, Jesus Luzardo, and Christopher Sanchez in the National League,” would be a tremendous get for Los Angeles.
