On June 19, 2025, Spain’s King Felipe VI named Rafael Nadal the Marqués de Llevant de Mallorca. The Royal family celebrated Rafa’s tennis triumphs and the legacy he has built throughout humility, resilience and national pride.
This noble title, which will be hereditary, recognizes Nadal’s lasting impact far beyond the court and celebrates the Spanish most outstanding athlete of all time.
Born in Manacor, Rafa has been one of Spain’s most respected global icons since 2005. With 22 Major titles on his tally, including a record 14 triumphs at Roland Garros, the clay warrior has long symbolized excellence and integrity.
Now retired at 39, the latest honor marks a graceful transition into Rafa’s post-tennis chapter as a symbol of inspiration. This is not the first time Felipe has honored Nadal.
Back in 2008, then-Prince of Asturias honored the 22-year-old Rafa with the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports following the young gun’s incredible results and the ascendance to the ATP throne.

Now, nearly two decades later, the bond comes full circle – with a royal title that reflects athletic greatness and personal values that resonate deeply in Spanish society.
Nadal’s marquisate cements his status: not just a champion of sport, but a noble in name and nature. Rafa ended his glorious career after 24 seasons at last year’s Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.
