Carlos Alcaraz has reached Rafael Nadal’s mark of four grass-court titles after securing his second championship at the Queen’s Club Championships. The 22-year-old defeated Jiri Lehecka this Saturday in a tight final with a score of 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2, thus drawing level with Nadal in terms of titles on this surface.
Nadal won his first grass-court title back in the 2008 Queen’s Club Championships, which served as a prelude to what would come a few weeks later: winning the Wimbledon title by defeating Roger Federer in the final. The former World No. 1 would win Wimbledon again in 2010, and his last grass-court title would be at the Stuttgart Open after its surface change. Nadal also lost in three finals on the surface, all at Wimbledon (2006, 2007, 2011).
Alcaraz, on his part, boasts an incredible 29-3 record in grass-court tournaments. In just 7 appearances, he has managed to win the title in four of them: Queen’s Club (2023, 2025) and Wimbledon (2023, 2024). The Spaniard is now preparing to defend his title at the All England Club, aiming to break Nadal’s record at Wimbledon.
Alcaraz and Nadal are the Spanish male tennis players with the most titles on grass courts. In one week, Alcaraz will seek to become the 5th player to achieve three consecutive titles at SW19, following Bjorn Borg (1976-1980), Pete Sampras (1993-1995; 1997-2000), Roger Federer (2003-2007), and Novak Djokovic (2018-2022*).
*The 2021 edition was not played due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
