Novak Djokovic maybe didn’t sign up for any main-level tournaments before Wimbledon but he will still get some action before this week after confirming his participation at an exhibition tournament in Hurlingham.
Throughout his career, the Serb – now ranked at No. 6 in the world – preferred to only play an exhibition match or two the week before The Championships. And after the 38-year-old didn’t agree to play in any ATP grass tournaments, it was pretty clear that he was planning to go the same route this year.
Today, the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic organizers announced Djokovic as a participant of this year’s event in Hurlingham. While the Hurlingham exhibition starts on Tuesday, the record 24-time Grand Slam champion is slated to play his first and probably only match on Friday.
For Djokovic, this will be his fourth consecutive appearance at the Hurlingham Club. In each of the past three years, he played one match and ended victorious on every occasion – Felix Auger Aliassime (2022), Frances Tiafoe (2023) and Daniil Medvedev (2024).
Hurlingham has served as a good Wimbledon preparation for Djokovic
The Serb went on to make the Wimbledon final every time after playing at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic – he made it all the way at The Championships in 2022 while he finished as runner-up in 2023 and 2024. He will certainly be hoping for something similar this year since he considers Wimbledon his “best shot” at claiming another Grand Slam title.
“Wimbledon is next, which is my childhood favorite tournament. I guess my best chances maybe are Wimbledon to win another Slam or faster hard court, maybe Australia or something like that,” Djokovic said after his French Open exit.
