Colin Cowherd loves his blunt hot takes, and there’s every chance that his recent take on the Dallas Cowboys’ new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, might turn out to be true. Like every year, Cowherd predicted the outcome of both the AFC and the NFC.

The Wednesday episode of The Herd contained all his juicy takes on the AFC, and the following day, he dropped a few bombs regarding the NFC. Cowherd kicked off the episode by declaring that Schottenheimer will lose his job after just one year.

To put weight behind his argument, the veteran analyst pointed out the recent string of coaches who were fired after just one year. Antonio Pierce was the name that popped up a couple of times. Pierce became the head honcho in 2024 after serving as the acting coach following Josh McDaniels’ departure in 2023.

The Raiders finished with just four wins, and owner Mark Davis didn’t hesitate to fire Pierce. Cowherd claimed that Brian Schottenheimer will meet the same fate as Antonio Pierce.

Brian Schottenheimer is a one-and-done. Jerry will know by Thanksgiving that he made a huge mistake. Forget the fact that Philadelphia and Washington will probably both blow them out in the division twice.

Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys in 2022 as a coaching analyst to Mike McCarthy. The following year, Jones upgraded the 51-year-old’s rank to offensive coordinator of the team.

However, McCarthy still called the plays while Schottenheimer learned from the background. Who would have guessed that after just two seasons, Jones would part ways with the former Super Bowl winner and appoint a complete rookie? He has vast experience in various roles, but this will be his first head coaching gig.

Brian Schottenheimer got emotional while talking about his father

Cowherd may doubt Schottenheimer’s ability to steer the treacherous waters in Dallas, but Jones did not. That’s because Jones witnessed the lineage and the environment in which he grew up.

Schottenheimer is the son of legendary Marty Schottenheimer, who managed several different teams during his tenure (1975-2006). Marty passed away in 2021 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He could not see his son become a head coach.

I know he’s proud. I miss him … I would tell him that I’ve used all the life lessons that he taught me, not just about football. But about life and being a good man and good husband and good father and that I think I’m doing OK for myself.

His first exposure to the NFL was under his father’s guidance in Washington (then known as the Redskins) and later with the San Diego Chargers (now the Los Angeles Chargers).

Andy Reid may be the king of Kansas City in the present, but Marty Schottenheimer saved the Chiefs from turning into the modern-day Browns by winning 91 games as their head coach in nine years. The Chiefs organization inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2010.

Meanwhile, Schottenheimer’s journey is only beginning. It can go either way. Cowherd’s prediction might come to fruition, or he can turn out to be the messiah who leads the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, which they haven’t won since 1996.
