The play of Thanksgiving belonged to Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
The former Texas Longhorns star, who missed his entire rookie season with a torn ACL, is proving to be an impact player for the Cowboys defense. During a Thanksgiving showdown against NFC East right New York, the 2023 third-round pick finished the game with nine tackles, recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown and, most impressively, returned a tipped interception for a touchdown.
Oh, and he’s the one who tipped the interception in the first place. Giants quarterback Drew Lock attempted to fake out Overshown and dump a pass off to running back Tyrone Tracy, but the linebacker wasn’t fooled.
He jumped up, tipped the pass from Lock and then housed the interception to give Dallas a 13-7 lead early in the second quarter.
His performance on Thursday afternoon reminded the world that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t allow the player, dubbed as “Agent 0” during his days with the Texas Longhorns, wear his preferred number.
“During my senior year, they allowed me to wear 0, and I thought, ‘This is meant to be. I’m supposed to be the first person to wear 0 for the Dallas Cowboys,'” he said. “So,” he said, “13 has been said to me as my best number, you know, lucky number.”
Well, after his dominant performance, Micah Parsons made it clear he’ll be phoning Jerry Jones on behalf of his teammate. “That’s Agent Zero! He’s going back to zero!” Parsons said after the game.
“Please!” Overshown pleaded before Parsons said, “I’m gonna make the call for you.”
In 12 games, Overshown has 84 tackles, 5.0 sacks, three pass defenses, and one interception.
