49ers release injury report with key change for Christian McCaffrey

Brock Purdy's Week 13 status a mystery as 49ers release injury report with key change for Christian McCaffrey

For the second successive day, Brock Purdy was listed as limited in San Francisco 49ers practice with the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Week 12 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

But, with no media present for their Thanksgiving practice, that status offers little insight into Purdy’s chances of playing in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills.

Purdy threw only a couple of passes in the section of practice open to the media on Wednesday, casting doubt on his ability to return for a key primetime game for 5-6 Niners.

With no additional information on whether Purdy threw on Thursday available at present, his status for the game is shrouded in mystery. If he cannot go, then Brandon Allen will start for the second consecutive game.

While there is a lack of clarity around Purdy, things certainly appear to be trending in the wrong direction for Trent Williams and Nick Bosa, who also each missed the blowout defeat to the Packers.

All-Pro left tackle Williams and former Defensive Player of the Year Bosa both sat out practice for a second successive day, with the pair appearing to be long shots to play in Buffalo.

On top of that, Deommodore Lenoir, the 49ers’ best corner this season, also missed a second straight practice. Were he to miss out, it would rob the Niners of the most important player in their defensive backfield, with Lenoir’s versatility in playing outside and slot corner critical to the strides San Francisco has made in that area.

But there was a positive for San Francisco that suggests reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey is in better shape this week.

McCaffrey was listed as a full participant, marking the first time he has had that status on a Thursday since his return from Achilles tendinitis earlier this month.

Guard Aaron Banks and Jordan Elliott remain in the concussion protocol and appear set to miss Week 13, while wide receiver Chris Conley was a fresh addition to the injury report. Conley was limited with a knee injury.
