The New York Yankees may be a solid free-agent destination for one of the best hitters on the open market.
Alex Bregman is expected to earn one of the largest contracts in free agency this offseason. He is among the top hitters available alongside Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Willy Adames. The Bronx Bombers may be a solid fit for the infielder who has loads of postseason experience.
Bregman is represented by Scott Boras, who is also the agent for Juan Soto and Gerrit Cole. Boras could shop the third baseman to the Yankees if Soto opts to sign elsewhere. Robert Flores of MLB Network predicted that the Bronx would be Bregman’s final destination as well.
The third baseman has spent his entire nine-year MLB career with the Houston Astros. He has won two World Series and is a two-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger recipient. Bregman is a career .272 hitter with a .848 OPS and 39.6 wins above replacement.
The slugger gave the Astros 26 home runs and 75 RBIs in 145 games in 2024. Bregman has been mainly healthy over the last three seasons. He has 74 homers, 266 runs batted in, and 456 hits since the start of 2022.
Bregman has even stated that he would be willing to move around the infield in order to bring his future team more flexibility. The Yankees would be able to fill both second and third between him and Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Bregman would also provide the Yankees with more depth and stability in the lineup. The team heavily relied on Aaron Judge and Soto for offense in 2024 and could use another star bat to scare opposing pitchers.
