The old saying goes: Mama knows best.
This rang true with Lamar Jackson after the Baltimore Ravens’ loss Sunday afternoon. Jackson said his mom “cussed him out” after his Eagles performance after passing up on some opportunities to make plays with his legs.
“She said there were lanes I should’ve took and ran,” Jackson said. “I was just trying to let guys develop routes. I was just trying to go through my progressions, but yeah, she’s right. I’m gonna do my [bleep], like I ain’t [bleep.] I’m sorry for this cussing. I’m just mad because I feel like we should win these games, but we’re not getting it done.”
If the Ravens want to make a deeper run for the Lombardi, Baltimore must do something its franchise excels in: running the ball. If the pass isn’t there, Jackson should utilize his legs and show teams why he is a must-see player.
A trait that saw a similar situation take place in last year’s championship game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
In the 14 games that Jackson has run for over 100 yards, the Ravens have 11 wins and only three losses. He’s had 28 games where he ran for over 80 yards, and Baltimore has won at least 16. With the addition of Derrick Henry to the squad, the Ravens have beefed up their running game to boasting one of the most lethal one-two-punch duos in the league. And while Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers have been excellent in the passing game, and Jackson is a better passer than given credit for, the Ravens suffer when they leave their true identity.
So maybe Jackson should listen to his mom after all.
