Bam Adebayo minced no words when he called out the media for ‘dogging’ Tyler Herro. The former Sixth Man of the Year was key in dismantling the LA Lakers shooting high-volume 3s to hand the Miami Heat a thumping 134-93 win at the Kaseya Center on Wednesday. The guard made nine of his 16 three-pointers to sink the Purple and Gold en route to his game-high 31 points.

Adebayo criticized the media for their relentless attention on Herro for his previous performances, adding that the team’s young gun proved them wrong with his scintillating performance.

“Bam Adebayo on Tyler Herro: Considering a lot of media and fans have dogged him in the past because of past performances, this is his moment right now…”

Herro received criticism for his earlier performances this season. With Jimmy Butler injured and in and out of the lineup, the onus was on Herro and Adebayo. However, the Heat struggled to hit the .500 mark for a major part of their campaign. They steadfastly held on to the ship, though, with the win against the Lakers.

On the game front, Tyler Herro saw some solid assistance in Butler and Terry Rozier’s 17 and 16 points. Bam Adebayo propped up 14 points. For the Lakers, LeBron James bounced back to form with 29 points, but the rest of the unit was a no-show on both ends of the floor.

Before Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler had earlier been candid on Tyler Herro’s scoring abilities

Before his slump, which saw the media and fans bash him as inconsistent, Tyler Herro had a brilliant start to his NBA 2024-25 season. He began the run averaging 24.9 points on 50.9 percent overall shooting before plummeting. He showed that the blip was temporary as he expertly broke down LA’s paltry defense and made full use of the space he had to generate buckets.

Earlier, Jimmy Butler offered a candid take on Herro’s ability to stay consistent on offense. Per The Athletic’s James Jackson:

“He’s a prolific scorer and can score on all levels. It’s actually really impressive. … He’s without a doubt one of the best scorers on this team. I’m not gonna say he’s the best, but he can get a bucket — that’s for damn sure.”

Should Herro continue to build on his impressive outing against LA, there’s every reason to believe he may earn his maiden All-Star nod. For now, Bam Adebayo isn’t wrong in telling the world about being hasty in their criticism of the guard. Only time will tell if he can remain consistent.
