FRISCO — No team nor its players spend the grueling training camps and grind of the regular season just to earn a Pro Bowl spot. Frankly, NFL coaches and players want to be busy that weekend and the week after getting ready for the Super Bowl.

Nonetheless, the Pro Bowl and what has now morphed into the Pro Bowl games are a strong indicator of a team’s success on the year. Take the 2023 season for example when the Dallas Cowboys finished 12-5, second in the NFC standings and saw 10 players ultimately earn selection or recognition for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

This time around, “America’s Team” may not see such strong representation. That is fair given their 5-7 start and the missed time of most of their star players.

However, a few names could be in line for selection this year, specifically on special teams. … where two “special” Cowboys rank high. Kicker Brandon Aubrey and returner KaVontae Turpin came in as lead vote-getters at their respective positions in the NFC after the first week of voting.

Aubrey’s star has continued to grow since joining the Cowboys last season, ranking third in made field goals this season (31) with a perfect percentage on extra point attempts. Meanwhile, Turpin leads the league in kickoff return yardage (762) and yards per return (36.3).

Beyond the special teams stars, no other Cowboys are positioned for immediate selection. CeeDee Lamb landed in the top five for receivers while Zack Martin and Hunter Luepke sit in sixth at their resepective positions. Long snapper Trent Sieg came in at 10th.

Looking at the voting overall, Lamar Jackson leads all players with 44,681 votes. Cowboys’ rival running back Saquon Barkley sits in third with 40,602. Derrick Henry, Josh Allen and Jahmyr Gibbs round out the remaining spots in the top five.

While the biggest names on the Cowboys’ roster may not get the shine for the end-of-season event, Aubrey and Turpin would be two deserving selections who have shined at their position this season.
