FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys hope to have two big-time playmakers available with the Cincinnati Bengals up next in Week 14 on “Monday Night Football.” … one on offense, one on defense.
For head coach Mike McCarthy’s team at 5-7, an undefeated run down the stretch seems unlikely. But that is the present goal, and it is fortified by the weekend’s final official injury report for the Cowboys – with good news coming in on All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb and on Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs.
Lamb is now off the injury report for the first time in weeks with his shoulder sprain obviously healing up. He’s put up big numbers in this offense even after the injury loss of quarterback Dak Prescott, and may need to do the same on Monday in what could be a shootout against a Bengals team that is just 4-8 but with QB Joe Burrow at the helm in the NFL’s top-ranked offense by some measures.
And on defense? Diggs has been unable to play in games recently, but the hope is that changes on Monday. He’s still listed as questionable, but there is optimism that he will take the field for the first time this year at the same time as fellow corners DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis … again defensive weapons that figure to come in very handy against the likes of standout receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Cowboys defensive leader Micah Parsons has spoken about his feeling responsible to be “the best player on the field” on Monday at AT&T Stadium, and that is a valiant position. But if Lamb and Diggs are full able to go? That gives Dallas a shot at offering up some other candidates who are capable of the same.
