For a moment there, we thought the 49ers’ injury roster was about to get worse. They already added more banged-up players on the roster after the 38-13 win over the Chicago Bears. Things could have been worse if the Niners lost Brock Purdy on that brutal hit in the last quarter of the game.
A fan-uploaded video that shows the Niners QB getting roughed up in a weird way. A Bears player held on to his waist while another defender held on to his helmet and Purdy to the ground. Brock Purdy landing awkwardly could have easily messed his back up. However, he was fine at the end of it all.
The Niners QB addressed the injury in the post-game, saying he hasn’t experienced anything like this in his football career. It really looked like the Bears defenders were trying to break Purdy in half and were ready to do nearly anything to stop him.
“It was just a weird hit .. for me I’d never been in a situation like that so I was sorta in shock. I felt some stuff within my body so I let myself cool down. That’s why I came out for a play… I was fine, my body was good..” Purdy said in the post-game presser.
Though Brock Purdy is feeling okay right now, his health remains a question mark. He was dealing with a soreness in his throwing shoulder before entering the Bears game. Purdy didn’t play in the game against the Packers, which the 49ers lost 38-10.

Following the win at Levi’s Stadium, Brock Purdy came out with 325 passing yards and two touchdowns. He threw one TD pass to Jauan Jennings at the beginning of the game and another one to him, with 7:40 remaining in the second quarter.
Fortunately, his injury didn’t solidify. But the Niners don’t have time to celebrate. They just took another major hit following the Bears’ win.
The Niners roster worsens
San Francisco lost their third running back to an injury on Sunday. Isaac Guerendo injured himself in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. He’s deemed questionable to play. This is especially bad since Christian McCaffrey is already out for the season and Jordan Mason is also on IR due to his ankle injury. That puts a considerable amount of responsibility on pass-catching specialist Patrick Taylor’s shoulders.

Before leaving the game, Guerendo amassed 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while also contributing 50 receiving yards. Kyle Shanahan revealed the injury to be a foot sprain but was unsure of anything more than that. “Possible foot sprain,” Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “X-rays didn’t for sure show anything, so we’ll have to look into it more tomorrow.”
Patrick Taylor took over Guerendo and scored a touchdown with 5 minutes in the last quarter, extending the lead to 31-6. They are up against the Rams in the next game. For the Niners’ sake, they need Guerendo to play because their next opponent just beat the Buffalo Bills and proved their mettle. With Cooper Kupp and Puca Nacua playing with all pistons firing, the injury-riddled Niners are in for an uphill battle. Fingers crossed for Brock Purdy!
