Travis Kelce produced an inspired moment by defying Andy Reid‘s plans to effectively win the game for the Kansas City Chiefs as they clinch the AFC West with a 19-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 35-year-old was supposed to run a typical corner route with two minutes on the clock in the fourth quarter, but instead made himself available on a Patrick Mahomes scramble to make a key first down.

Then stepped up Matthew Wright as the kicker converted a field goal attempt via the post to gift the Chiefs their 12th win of the 2024/25 NFL season as they sealed their division title and took control of the AFC Conference.

However, instead of being angry at the play on December 8 at the Arrowhead Stadium, Reid instead chose to celebrate his star players as they once again hauled his side out of another tough spot.

“That play that Pat and Kelce made at the end,” Reid told reporters after the game. “That was something. That’s not quite the way it was drawn up.”

Audiences stunned by Chiefs’ fortune

The moment once again summed up how the campaign has gone for the defending champions. Neither Mahomes nor Kelce looked impressive throughout the game, but when the chips were down they came up with the big play to take another win.

The victory was their 10th of the season by a one-score margin and sixth one-score win in a row, as many fans and pundits find themselves shocked by how they just keep on managing to get over the line, somehow.

“NOT AGAIN,” Skip Bayless, a commentator for Fox Sports posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. “HOW LUCKY CAN THE CHIEFS GET?

“A CHIPSHOT FIELD GOAL OFF THE LEFT UPRIGHT — AND THROUGH FOR THE GAME-WINNER??? A HALF INCH DIFFERENCE AND THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT OVER THE CROSSBAR.”

The Chiefs will go for their 13th win of the season in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns at the Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, December 15.
