Fans Spot Something Odd in Cowboys’ Brian Schottenheimer Announcement
The Dallas Cowboys ended their head coaching search on Friday, announcing that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer would be getting a promotion and taking over the job.
Fans found something a little odd in the team’s late-night announcement, however.
The Cowboys had an unexpected vacancy when Mike McCarthy decided to leave to pursue other options. It was widely expected that McCarthy would return to the team, but the two sides were unable to reach a deal on a contract extension and he ultimately departed.
Schottenheimer had emerged as a top candidate in the last few days, getting a big endorsement from quarterback Dak Prescott and ending up on top after a narrow search that included interviews with just two other candidates.
The team announced the hire in a post on social media, but fans noticed something strange about one of the images used. The Cowboys posted a series of pictures of Schottenheimer, with one appearing flipped so that the “D” on the coach’s hat was facing the wrong way.
“So is the logo on the hat supposed to be backwards because it’s cool? Or is that just a mistake?” one fan shared in a post on BlueSky.
Another suggested that the team’s social media department may have put the graphic together quickly, flipping one image of Schottenheimer so that all images of him were facing the same way.
But some pointed out that at least one company sells Dallas merchandise with a backward “D,” suggesting the image was legitimate.
Whatever the reason, some fans suggested it was a bad look for the Cowboys to share an image of their new head coach with an apparent error in it.
“Would you expect anything different from the Cowboys organization at this point?” one fan wrote on BlueSky.
